Sample Microsoft 365 Security Posture Review
A proof-of-work example showing how VALO converts Microsoft 365 configuration evidence into prioritized security decisions.
This is not a client case study. The organization, systems, findings, metrics, and risk values below are fictional and exist only to demonstrate the structure and level of detail of a VALO deliverable.
Executive context
Example organization: Summit Legal Group, a fictional 65-user professional-services firm using Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, and Microsoft Defender.
Objective: establish a defensible Microsoft 365 security baseline, identify material configuration gaps, and produce a prioritized hardening plan.
Sample scored findings
| Area | Finding | Priority | Evidence | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Identity | Conditional Access does not require MFA for all users outside trusted administrative scenarios. | High | Policy review shows incomplete user/app coverage. | Establish baseline MFA policy, document exclusions, and validate break-glass accounts. |
| Privileged access | Seven accounts hold broad administrative roles and several use the same identity for daily productivity. | High | Role assignment export and sign-in review. | Reduce standing privilege, separate admin identities, and establish quarterly role review. |
| Endpoint access | Unmanaged devices can access selected corporate data without a consistent compliance requirement. | High | Conditional Access and Intune compliance review. | Require compliant devices for appropriate data paths or apply controlled browser/app protections. |
| Anti-phishing protections are not consistently aligned to the organization's executive and finance impersonation risk. | Moderate | Defender policy review. | Harden anti-phishing policy, protected users/domains, mailbox intelligence, and reporting workflow. | |
| Data | External sharing is allowed broadly without documented ownership or periodic review. | Moderate | SharePoint/OneDrive sharing settings and sample sites. | Define sharing baseline, owner review cadence, and sensitive-site restrictions. |
